The decorative stone pieces that are staggered on the corners of buildings are called quoins. I think they had great character to a building and of course then Blossom Cottage had to have. Yep, its got a name now complete with detailing above the door frame too but you are going to have to come back for another article to see the doors and windows all in.
I made the quoins from chipboard (thick cardstock) cutting squares 2.5 cm X 2.5cm and halves 2.5cm X 1.3 cm. I snipped two corners off and then sanded the snipped side smooth and rounded. Painting and distressing them added the character I wanted.
I cheated on the foundation stones by cutting strips of chipboard and just scoring it where I wanted joins. This was also painted and distressed.
